It is time for a fucking revolution.

If the fashion industry thrives on newness and novelty then they are failing themselves.

If you want a ‘new twist on a classic style’ I’ve got one for you.

Make a pencil skirt for someone who is 5ft 3.

Make a white shirt that will button over my breasts.

Make a shift dress that doesn’t get ‘nipped in at the waist’.

Make a pair of shoes that won’t aggravate my ankle injury.

Make a ‘nude-coloured’ dress that is dark brown.

Make your plus-sized jeans in actual denim, not some shitty stretch fabric dyed blue.

You want a fresh take on the classics?

Try making your clothes for someone who isn’t six foot tall and a size 6.

For once.

oh and also make fucking steel-toed boots under the size mens 8 1/2

Make some form-fitting shirts that are thick enough to stop our bras from showing through.

Make sensitive skin-friendly buttons and clasps so we don’t have worry about the metal making us break out in contact dermatitis (that’s a localized rash that can easily become an infection, for the uninformed).

Make a long dress that is easy to go to the bathroom in.

Make a pair of jeans that actually fit in the crotch area instead of putting us at risk of a yeast infection (No “V”).

Make more dress shoes that aren’t heels.

Put more pockets in women’s clothes.

Amen to all.

Some people were a little confused so I made this.

Good, I thought I was the only one to think this

so basically someone made a redesigned version of Comic Sans and holy shit I never knew I could warm up to something that resembles Comic Sans like this

I’m not a typographer so my eyes aren’t trained for this but I think I might use this from now on

A heroic effort

It looks really good to me.  A lot cleaner.

one time in math class my teacher was really pissed at us and he was yelling “DO YOU EVEN KNOW BASIC MATH? DO YOU KNOW ADDITION? WHAT’S TWO PLUS TWO? COREY, WHAT’S TWO PLUS TWO?” and poor corey wasn’t paying attention so i leaned over to him and whispered “seven” and he blurted out “SEVEN” and i have never laughed harder and i doubt i ever will

What You Don’t Know About Beauty and the Beast:

Some backstory: due to this little discussion, I was considering writing a continuation/expansion of Beauty and the Beast. I read up on it and found out everything I thought I knew about it was wrong.

-It was created by one, singular, female author in 1740: Madame Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve

-It is not a retelling of a pervasive folklore like Perrault’s Cinderella, for example. It was influenced by folklore but is an original story and is very “post” the fairy tales you might be familiar with. The story is also influenced by women who gathered together and told each other revisions of fairy tales in Parisian salons.

-It’s over 100 pages long

-Though written simply and in a straightforward manner, the characters have personalities and are much more complex in their emotions than a normal folkloric tale. They behave in a diverse and fairly realistic manner to their situations. The Beast’s mother in particular is a complex woman, protective of her son and a capable military leader but not progressive in her attitude towards marrying below your station.

-Women are overwhelmingly the masters of the plot and outnumber the men in number and priority.

Female players include:

  • Belle/Beauty

  • A nice Fairy

  • A jerk Fairy (called Mother of the Seasons)

  • The Queen of the Fairies

  • A Fairy-who-is-a-Queen (these are different)

  • A Queen/the Beast’s mother

  • Belle’s shallow (though fairly realistically so) sisters who are treated as a collective

-It contains considerable world-building. Fairy language, Fairy law, Fairy influence over monarchies, Fairy hierarchy, Fairy magic are all things she depicts. (eat your heart out, Tolkien fans).

-The curse is broken halfway through the book. The rest is devoted to comments on class, monarchy, marrying for love vs. status, appropriate conditions for love, and marrying below your station among other things.

-The Beast is cursed to punish his mother.

-The book’s plot turns out to be entirely due to the machinations of The Mother of the Seasons and the long-game trap/revenge story orchestrated by the Nice Fairy to defeat The Mother of the Seasons Fairy.

-The book takes place in a specific time period rather than in a nebulous “before-time”, somewhere, as I figure, between 1669 to the early 1700s. It might even be contemporaneous to when it was published. It references the age piracy, revolutions, the merchant class, the presence of slavery, Belle watching comedies, operas, and plays the Fair of St. Germain, and a Janissary battle.

-The Beast’s Queen mother led troops into battle for several years, put down a revolt and defeated an encroaching enemy monarch.

And this is only a partial list.

If you’d like to read the original version by Madame de Villeneuve, it’s collected in a book by J. R. Blanche.

It’s available for free:

Archive.org (they don’t mention her name in the author list but it’s there)

Google Books

I’ve uploaded a PDF of the Beauty and the Beast part on Google Drive.

holy SHIT

I never understood why a good fairy would punish an 11 year old. This makes more sense! (also I am totally reading this)

Like the Warrior Women of Olde (Whom We Will Provide Historical Evidence for Once We Find It), Camia Gamet struck down her penis wielding cishetmale boyfriend.

He had it coming, of course.

You know what, fuck it. I can’t even keep this up. She had a history of beating the shit out of her boyfriend until she finally killed him, at one point repeatedly assaulting him with a fucking hammer. Nobody intervened. Nobody helped. There was no shelter he could go to. He cried for help while she repeatedly stabbed him to death.

***And if we had gender-neutral laws and equal-access shelters, this would not have happened.*** This is one of thousands, tens of thousands of deaths that could be prevented. This blood is on the hands of feminist lobbyists and feminist policymakers. Tens of thousands of names like this, stories like this. There is a reason that this is important, there is a price of human lives until we get real equality, actual equality, and not the sham that feminism has been peddling.

(Asterisks and bold emphasis in the first sentence of the last paragraph added by me.)

I volunteer at a “family shelter” that until recently was exclusively reserved for women and children. The men’s shelter in our area received less than half of the public funding that ours does and eventually it was closed all together, leaving men with children no local options.

I saw men, literally battered and bloody, turned away. Sure, the center offered to keep their kids though… 'No, it's cool man. We'll take your kids and put them into the CPS system. You can figure out how to jump through all those hoops to get them back later. Go on back to that home where your wife poured scalding grease down your back and wait, ok? Everything will seem different in the morning.'

Sure, there are “men’s shelters” but those places are primarily used by addicted or mentally ill indigents and the services provided there are poorly suited to men suffering abuse or to children. Those places simply weren’t designed to meet those needs. They’re overcrowded, poorly funded and poorly managed, and often, the men we saw who went to those places were robbed, beaten and abused just badly as they were in the homes they were trying to escape.

Very recently though, our shelter opened a men’s wing. Since then every bed has been full, every single night. EVERY BED. EVERY NIGHT. We’ve already doubled legal and psychological support staff and there’s still more help needed. And more and more men keep coming.

To be clear, ours is a crisis center. In order to qualify for residence there, one must be a guardian to at least one child, and there has to be physical abuse that has been documented by doctors AND police. These aren’t lazy or drama queening dudes who just want someplace to crash because they’ve been fighting with their partners. These are men who are being battered and their children harmed and who have absolutely no place left to run.

If you think that women are incapable of abusing men as profoundly as men abuse women…I can introduce you to some people who will change your mind. Like the guy who came in with glass in his scalp and cheek from where his wife ground a broken drinking glass into his face - for the second time. Or the one who was drugged to sleep and then raped with a zucchini by his girlfriend, who filmed the entire thing and shared it with her friends. Or the one who had his knee broken by a baseball bat when he came home and told his girlfriend he’d been fired. Or the one who set on fire because his wife thought he was cheating on him. Yeeahh, these guys should just man up and fight back right? Or maybe they deserved it somehow? (Pardon me while I puke.)

Regardless of what you think about the patriarchy, the domestic abuse suffered by men is real, and there is a very real deficit in social support resources for men who suffer that abuse.

Bus seats in Finland - for the unsocial people, like me.

Rule number one in Finnish public transport culture: Don’t sit next to anyone. Unless the seats are like this.

In every other cases fill the spots from window seats. Then standing up seats. If the bus gets crowded sit next to someone but sit as far as possible from the other person and turn your head to look to the completely different direction. Don’t say a word.

And if you’re the one sitting next to window pray all the gods that the other person leaves before you, because otherwise you’d have to speak to him/her. Usually it’s something like “Umm..ileavenow”. Remember, no sorries or smiles. Just say it as low and fast as possible without making any eye contact.

legit advise for people visiting finland. that “ileavenow” is “mä jään täs” in finnish. it’s okay if you don’t pronounce it perfectly right because the only reason someone would talk to strangers in public transport is to ask them to move, so they will get the hint.

BUT! usually just things like putting your phone away and rustling your bag and looking like you are about to leave will do the trick. no need for words.

….and this is how you wait for a bus in finland:

Reblogging because of that picture. So true. And familiar.

This is the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen…what the actual fuck. It almost seems like a joke but I feel like it’s actually serious????

In Finland strangers try to stay the fuck out of your personal space? I’M MOVING TO FINLAND.

And I thought England was awkward.

it’s pretty much the same in estonia tbh
